Rugby Sevens In Southeast Asia

The eastern part of the globe is building up their rugby talents as well.

There are two local rugby seven tournaments planned in April which will help to build up the hype for HSBC Singapore Sevens. Hence, for those who love to watch rugby, there is more to watch and enjoy in the month of April in south East Asia. There is the upcoming world class rugby sevens tournament of HSBC Singapore along with Midnight 7s of Singapore and SEA 7s.

The SEA 7s will be held during the Easter weekend and is sanctioned by the governing body of the sport, World Rugby. There would be eight men’s teams as well as six women’s teams coming in from different south East Asian countries. The inaugural edition of the tournament was held last year when Singapore came second in both men and women’s categories. This year the games would be held at the Yio Chu Kang stadium with free admission for the fans. The finals will be held on April 15th.

The Midnight 7s will also be an open tournament that will feature both categories of games. The same stadium will host the games from 7 pm till 1 am.

Participating teams will be signing up with 12 members and a maximum of eight teams can participate in each category. Registration is ongoing and details can be found at singaporerugby.com. The Midnight 7s is formed as a social tournament where fans can compete in a friendlier environment. The social side is showcased through Midnight 7s which helps to bring fans and people of different communities together. It also helps to promote the game that is building a fan base slowly in this part of the world. That is, unlike England, Europe and other countries like Australia or New Zealand, where it is an established game.
